KnowYourOnions started from a relationship between two brothers separated by an ocean. One, a chef impassioned by creativity, the other a creative guy passionate for food. The long distance meant the latter had to phone the chef from the supermarket to get tips and the right ingredients for a good meal. Long distance phone calls = lots of money. Thinking about how to solve that (together with the third ingredient, a friend passionate about technological challenges, the idea of pulling recipes with a simple SMS came about. After solving a few issues on the way, here we are. We hope you enjoy our recipes, and that being able to access them from your pocket is as pleasing to you as it is for us. Erik Nako and
Cristiano Lanna are the brilliant minds behind all our dishes. The former, after a career in advertising, headed to Institut Paul Bocuse (Lyon) to follow his passion. He then worked at the Michelin Starred restaurants Nicolas LeBec (Lyon) and El Racó d’En Freixa (Barcelona). The latter, after studying both engineering and design, was also steered to gastronomy by his love for the art. The Brazilian duo now heads the famous consultancy
Cozinha Criativa (portuguese only for now, sorry).
Alex Nako definitely puts good food and good design on the same shelf. As he developed his career through branding and advertising, the curiosity around how technology impacts culture and vice-versa geared him to user experience and interaction design. It’s about creativity throughout a whole service life-cycle, including eating well. He currently works for the mobile industry as well as his own consultancy
Dimaquina.
Christopher Burgdorfer is the geek in the team. But different than many geeks, Christoph doesn’t just eat pizza and drink beer. He might burn an omelet or two while coding the latest features into KnowYourOnions, but other than that, the fire alarm in the kitchen stays pretty silent. Christoph’s specialities are mobile services and mobile interactivity. He has been working for major brands world wide for more than 6 years now.
